Edje Concrete, QLD
An insight into Two Paddocks, Winner of Master Builders Best Residential Kitchen 2025
Edje Concrete has built a reputation on handcrafted GFRC pieces that deliver “raw yet refined” surfaces, and their Trowel finish is one of their signature styles. It’s all about texture, depth, and uniqueness—each piece is hand-trowelled to create movement, character, and variations that a machine simply can’t replicate.
On the Gold Coast, Edje Concrete delivered a standout project that really demonstrates their design eye and craftsmanship. The centrepiece is an island benchtop with dramatic waterfall ends, paired with a seamless butler’s pantry surface and a striking fireplace hearth with wall panelling. To complete the look, they added custom details like concrete plinths and window sills, all tying together into a cohesive, architectural finish.
Domcrete’s family of Alpha premixes adds a technical dimension to make this finish possible in more demanding and flexible ways. Of particular interest is Alpha ECC (Engineered Cementitious Composite premix), which is designed specifically for premium hand-finished surfaces, including cast-in-place / in-situ / right-side up casting. That means you can pour or position the concrete where it will stay, and finish it on-site using trowels, floats or similar tools to get that handcrafted surface with movement and texture. The Alpha ECC mix is versatile in stiffness (from stiff to more flowable) depending on the project needs, which gives artisans control over how pronounced the trowel marks or texture are.
Congratulations to Edje Concrete and all teams involved for bringing this stunning project to life with such craftsmanship and vision.
