The Moxy Sydney Airport Hotel, designed by GroupGSA and developed by Roberts Co., sets a new benchmark in Australia’s hotel scene—merging bold aesthetics with youthful energy and an uncompromising attention to detail.
During the design phase, GroupGSA approached Domcrete GFRC to quote the architectural concrete scope for the hotel. The project called for custom GFRC bathroom vanities across all 300+ rooms, as well as bespoke concrete elements for the hotel’s public zones: reception desks, dining furniture, communal seating, and sculptural features throughout the indoor and outdoor spaces.
Recognising the complexity and craftsmanship required, Domcrete GFRC quickly engaged Duncan McNally, the highly regarded artisan and founder of Concrete Bespoke. With a portfolio of GFRC work spanning projects in both Australia and the United States, Duncan was the perfect fabricator to take on a project of this scale and design ambition.
From Design Intent to Production Reality
Once the initial purchase order for 330 custom vanities was issued, Domcrete GFRC’s director, Domenic Scarpari, personally collaborated with Duncan at Concrete Bespoke’s Sydney workshop. Domenic provided technical assistance from mould design, consulted on fabrication methods, and helped oversee the concept castings that would guide the production of the final elements.
Supplying the Backbone
In addition to design and technical consultation, Domcrete GFRC supplied the full range of materials used in the project—this included:
- All mould-making materials, including rubber components
- Domcrete’s premium GFRC premix system, optimised for high-performance, architectural finishes Alpha GFRC SCC Premix, admixtures, fibers, and sealers.
